Nesting sign letters for Techno CNC routers
Techno CNC routers are used in many sign shops for letters, faces and backs from acrylic, PVC, ACM and wood. NestSigns does the step before the toolpaths: it packs the letters from your design file onto as few sheets as it can and gives you a nested file for your CAM software.

| Step | Tool |
|---|---|
| 1. Design the letters | Illustrator, CorelDRAW, FlexiSIGN or another design program |
| 2. Nest the letters | NestSigns: open the .ai, .cdr, PDF, DXF or SVG file and pick the sheet |
| 3. Make toolpaths | The CAM software you use with your Techno router: import the nested DXF |
| 4. Cut | The router controller |
The nested DXF is R12 with true arcs on one layer, which most CAM software imports cleanly. One file per sheet, or all sheets in one file.
Sheet sizes and leftovers
Techno routers come in many table sizes, from small benchtop models to full-size tables. Save the sizes you actually load in the material stock, leftover pieces included. NestSigns uses the smallest leftovers that fit first, then full sheets, and updates the stock when you mark the job done.
Spacing from your bit
Type the bit diameter and the part spacing is set to the bit plus a small clearance. The file check also points out spots in the artwork narrower than the bit, where corners won't come out sharp, and spots thinner than the bit, which may break. After each run the smallest gap actually left is measured and shown.
Faces and backs on different stock
Channel letter faces and backs are often cut from different materials. Keep one material per color and thickness, each with its own sheets, leftovers and price, and nest each part of the job onto the right stock. The layout summary PDF numbers every part so faces and backs can be matched after cutting.
What else it does for letter jobs
- True-shape nesting by the real letter outlines: any angle, 0/180° only, or no rotation.
- Exact spacing. Type the gap or your bit diameter; every layout is checked and shows the smallest gap measured.
- Parts inside letter holes. Small pieces go inside O, A, B and D, and holes stay with their letter.
- Leftovers first. Full sheets and leftover pieces per material, smallest leftovers used first, stock updated when the job is done.
- Oversize letters left out, divided, or divided with a 1 in joining strip, pieces labeled A1, A2…
- Every part numbered on the sheets and on the original artwork in the layout summary PDF.

Questions
Does NestSigns make toolpaths for my Techno router?
No. NestSigns does the nesting and exports DXF, PDF, AI, SVG or LightBurn files. You make toolpaths in the CAM software you already use.
Can it use my leftover pieces?
Yes. Add leftovers to the material stock and NestSigns uses the smallest ones that fit first.
Is NestSigns made by Techno CNC?
No. NestSigns is separate software and is not affiliated with Techno CNC Systems. It works with any router that cuts from a DXF or PDF layout.
