Online SVG nesting for sign letters
Open an SVG in your browser, choose your sheet, and NestSigns packs the shapes onto as few sheets as it can. Download the layout as SVG again, or as DXF, PDF, AI or a LightBurn project.

SVG is common when artwork comes from Inkscape, a web font tool or a customer, and it is the usual file for laser cutting. NestSigns opens it directly and keeps every curve as drawn.
How it works
| Step | What you do |
|---|---|
| 1. Open the SVG | Drag it into NestSigns. Each letter or shape becomes its own part, with its holes. |
| 2. Pick the sheet | A full sheet or a leftover piece, per material. |
| 3. Set the gap and rotation | Type the gap or your bit diameter; choose any angle, 0/180° only, or no rotation. |
| 4. Nest and check | Every layout is measured. The smallest gap and edge distance are shown before you download. |
| 5. Download | SVG as one file or one per sheet, or DXF, PDF, AI and LightBurn. |
Tips for a clean SVG
- Convert text to paths before saving, so the letters are shapes and not font references.
- Use closed paths. Join open ends before saving.
- Check the units. If the SVG gives its width in inches or millimeters, that size is used. If it only gives pixels, choose how many pixels make an inch: Inkscape and CorelDRAW use 96, Illustrator uses 72.
Compared with general SVG nesting tools
Free tools such as SVGnest nest any SVG shapes in the browser and are a good start. NestSigns is made only for sign letters, so it adds a stock list with leftovers, a measured gap check, dividing letters bigger than the sheet and numbered parts for sorting. We measured both on 50 real shop files: see the Deepnest and SVGnest comparison.
What else it does for letter jobs
- True-shape nesting by the real letter outlines: any angle, 0/180° only, or no rotation.
- Exact spacing. Type the gap or your bit diameter; every layout is checked and shows the smallest gap measured.
- Parts inside letter holes. Small pieces go inside O, A, B and D, and holes stay with their letter.
- Leftovers first. Full sheets and leftover pieces per material, smallest leftovers used first, stock updated when the job is done.
- Oversize letters left out, divided, or divided with a 1 in joining strip, pieces labeled A1, A2…
- Every part numbered on the sheets and on the original artwork in the layout summary PDF.
